On November 29, 2024, the Department of Linguistic Disciplines and Intercultural Communications of Brest State Technical University hosted the Interregional scientific and practical conference "Professional foreign language training of university specialists: experience, problems, prospects" in person and in absentia, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics of BrSTU.
The purpose of the conference was to consider a range of issues related to the study of foreign languages in the modern language space, current problems of teaching foreign languages, as well as RKI (Russian as a foreign language) and the Belarusian language in non-philological specialties.
The conference was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics of BrSTU, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor Victoria Vasilievna Zazerskaya. In her speech, she noted the relevance of the conference topic, drew attention to the importance of using modern methods and technologies used in the educational process and aimed at improving students' proficiency in a foreign language.
Teachers from the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan (Mary, Turkmenistan), the Belarusian State University (Minsk), the Minsk State Linguistic University (Minsk), the Polesie State University (Pinsk), and the Baranovichi State University (Baranovichi) took part in the discussion of current issues in teaching foreign languages for professional purposes, which allowed for an engaged discussion on the entire spectrum of issues raised during the conference. As a result of this work, the conference participants accumulated significant scientific and methodological material.
The conference provided participants with an opportunity for a constructive exchange of views and opinions on issues reflecting conceptual approaches, mechanisms, and innovative technologies for the formation of foreign language professional communicative competence in order to improve the quality of training engineering personnel.
Fruitful and meaningful work contributed to the establishment of new academic contacts, served as a basis for the exchange of experience and the organization of long-term cooperation, and will also contribute to strengthening the integration ties between our universities.
